The Future of Smart Devices

The Internet of Things (IoT) quite simply is the entirety of the systems connected to the internet. That ability to share and store data, without the need for human-to-human contact.
So what that mean?
Well, IoT is constantly changing with the introductions of new and improved personal devices. With every new phone, smart watch and even smart car that is purchased, the world is becoming much more accessible to us, right at our fingertips.
Think about it, how handy is it to be able to shout out to Siri or Google assistant when you're hands aren't free?
I know for me I would've never thought information would be more accessible than how I access it on my iPhone, until I got an Apple watch. The compact screen, 40mm case, is so small yet so big. Okay, I realise that doesn't make that much sense, but what I mean is that yes its literal size is small, however its capacity to search, store and move data is incredible. It's very handy to have devices that are so reachable to us!
So what does that mean for marketers?
Well, for one it means that our audiences have constant access to our information and it will be effective if it is delivered in the right way. The use of these personal smart devices allows companies to:

Things we have to keep in mind!
- Personal devices are getting smaller and smaller. The sizes which means the amount of information we put out is condensed and therefore has to be eye catching to grab our audience's attention and fulfil their needs.
- Information interfaces are constantly advancing, which means the amount of data that will be compiled will definitely increase. It is important to ensure that these mass amounts of data are made sense of to better understand our audience.
- These personal smart devices are just that, they are personal to the user. They store so much data cumulated over the course of their history of usage. We have to remember to be sensitive of what information we are accessing to gather the information we require to satisfy our customers needs and wants. We don't want to make our users feel like their information isn't secure and that their privacy could be violated.
So where do you the future of our smart devices are headed? Are there any other things we need to be aware of with the increased use of these personal devices?

Great blog Shashika. You made some really great points, that marketers should always keep in mind, from a digital point of view. They really must consider if their existing digital platforms translate to these devices, what look good on a laptop, such as a website may not translate onto a phone, or may not even fit on a smart watch. As well as this, when individualised marketing is used, you really have to be careful you're not breaching somebody's privacy, especially with the large amount of information one can collect on an individual, Facebook is an example of a business under scrutiny for this in recent years for breaching that privacy.
I think it's crazy to think about how something that small can store such a wide amount of information. I think you make a really good point in that for marketers now, things must be quick, concise, eye-catching, and able to stay in the minds of the audience. We have to think of new and creative ways to break through the mass noise that we see and are around constantly.
Thank you for the comments! I totally agree with both of you, there is so much room for expanding the IoT, I think almost unpredictable.
Although smart devices are already prevalent in our lives today, I think the future will involve a greater level of integration in our lifestyles, such as virtual reality glasses for example. I think your point about making users feel like their information is secure and not violated is very important and is something that every marketer should be focusing on. Great job Shashika!
The size of a device now a days doesn't begin to amount the size of ability it contains. Marketers are living in an era where IoT can be utilised to connect with consumers, not just though their phone, but other smart devices to ease the consumers effort in searching for their brand online. I think the future of IoT hasn't even been exposed yet, it would be so futuristic and oblivious that consumers won't realise they need it until it takes over the consumer population (maybe something in the science field first then businesses who sell unnecessary items).
